Chapter 9

1. Why did Tom want to stay awake when he went to bed?  Answer: because he heard Huck outside his window and they went to the graveyard together.

2. What were the three men doing in the cemetery?  Answer: Hoss Williams' grave was being excavated.

3. Why did the three men end up fighting?  Answer: they argued about money and revenge.

4. How did Injun Joe make Potter think he’d killed Dr. Robinson?  Answer: While he was unconscious from the blow to his head, Joe puts the knife in his hands.

5. How do each of the boys react to the scariness of the graveyard? Answer: They related all the sounds they heard as if they were demons.

6. Who seems more scared? Answer: Huckk because everything related to the devil.

7. Why might this be? Answer: because they thought that Williams' sudden death was due to an evil act. 

8. Draw a sketch of the murder scene, showing the positions of everyone, including

the boys.

10. How does news travel in Tom's village? Answer: because Tom and Huck decide to go back and tell what happened.
